The Iberian grid took 27 seconds to collapse last April. Some generators disconnected before voltage thresholds were even breached.
We're deploying technology faster than we can learn from it. Generator behaviour is now software-defined—changeable via a firmware update—yet verification of actual performance during real grid stress remains limited.
The gap between planning assumptions and operational reality keeps widening. And we're all acting surprised when the next disturbance reveals it.
We've explored these and other issues for Modern Power Systems in their December 2025 edition: https://www.modernpowersystems.com/analysis/what-real-grid-events-reveal-about-modern-power-system-vulnerabilities/?cf-view
